Social media

For many years I posted my photos on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Like so many photographers, I started on Flickr and Google+. Up next was Instagram and Facebook. Recent developments however made me rethink my social media presence. I abandoned all of them in favor of Bluesky and Mastodon. Time will tell how I get on with those platforms. Truth be told I spent too much time scrolling and too much time looking at content that I did not ask for. I still feel a need to share what I do in the hope that my work will be seen and that I might ‘meet’ like- minded people who share a passion for the arts.

Grass

My latest project is about grass. I always liked grasses but I never considered doing a project about them until my last exhibition. During this last exhibition I sold a few large prints that depicted grasses. This sparked the idea to work on a project exclusively on grasses. Some examples of grass are included in the Fine Art Photography portfolio on this site. My plan is to exhibit a series of prints with a high quality Acrylic finish. The extra depth that Acrylic gives is extremely well suited to the subject matter. My aim is to show detail, colour, form and abstract representations of various types of grasses in Ireland. Shown here is one of the prints that sold.

Social media

I joined a social media platform called Mastodon. This European platform is relatively small but I like the fact that is based in Europe. Have a look if you get a chance to see what I am getting up to. @bernardvangiessen@mastodon.social. Or click on the Mastodon button below.

The Bauhaus symbols incorporated on my site

At the Bauhaus, the triangle, circle, and square were fundamental shapes used to explore the relationships between form, color, and psychological impact. Specifically, these shapes were often paired with the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) in experiments aimed at understanding their universal correspondence. Kandinsky, in particular, associated the triangle with activity and aggression, the square with peace and calm, and the circle with the spiritual realm.
